Can You Fast For Fitness?

A lot of people do not understand their bodies. That much is obvious because they think that fasting will help them become fitter. They feel certain that their bodies will feed off their excess fat and that they will lose weight as a result. They also seem to think that they will automatically end up with more muscle, just in the right places too. Some take up fasting for fitness because they believe that it will rid them of the toxins in their bodies.

Another belief that these fasters have is that they are will be able to flush out all of the toxins in their bodies by drinking plenty of water at the same time as not eating food. Even if this is true, it would be a long procedure that would mean that you would have to fast for at least five to seven days though in order to conclude the detox process, although it is still not clear scientifically whether fasting is the right approach for those that desire fitness.

There are many other routes to fitness that do work well though. For example, you can cut back the amount of food that you consume. Cutting back is not fasting, it is dieting and it is not only far more effectual, it is also far less difficult. This, combined with drinking plenty of water and increasing your amount of physical exercise will help you to become fitter.

If you drink a lot of soda like cola or lemonade, which are full of sugar, like a lot of kids do, or lots of cups of sugared tea or coffee, like a lot of adults do, then just replacing those drinks with water or weak tea will help you lose weight quite rapidly even if you do not make any other changes to your diet or your level of exercise.

It is also possible to damage your body if you take on on a demanding exercise regime only relying on body fat to keep you going. Your body almost certainly will not be able to supply enough energy to fuel such a change, because your metabolism will be too low.

Someone going about it in this way, can become very weak and dizzy. It is not a good idea to risk injury because you have not given your body all the energy it requires to accomplish the tasks you are asking it to perform.

It is better to see a physician before you make any changes to either your diet or your fitness program. Discuss with your doctor about your thoughts on fasting and fitness. They will be able to tell you whether they feel it is something you can try or whether it is simply too risky.

Fasting is all right if you have do it for religious purposes, but do not attempt much physical exertion. Ask a Muslim how he or she feels during Ramadan! Fasting for long periods can lead to high blood pressure and even liver damage. So, be very wary before attempting to starve yourself fit, there are much better ways.

What Is The Point Of An Auto Navigation System?

Maps are essentially defective. By the time the surveyors have finished and the data that they have collected has been mapped out and the printers have published the map and sent it to the distributors and they have sold it to the shops and you have made up your mind to buy one, it is out of date. Sometimes years out of date

Another problem is that it is impossible to read a map and drive carefully at the same time. You cannot read a map and look out of the windscreen at the same time. So, you either need a co-pilot who can read a map, or you have to stop often and memorize a small part of the map. That is all right, travellers did it that way for a hundred years or more, but now there is a better way.

GPS satellite navigation devices have been around for a long time. At first they were only used by aircraft and ocean liners. As the price fell, yachting people could afford them; later still long distance lorries had them, then very expensive cars and now practically all vehicles.

Despite the odd story of someone driving into a river in the dark, because the driver trusted the sat nav and the sat nav did not know that the bridge had been removed, the auto navigation system has been a resounding success.

I am certain that family Sunday outings are far more pleasurable now that the spouse does not have to do the map-reading; lone travellers do not have to stop to get their bearings and lone female drivers are safer because they do not have to stop to ask directions.

Being lost at night or having broken down in the countryside or even taking a wrong turn into a rough district of town is terrifying. Even if you have your cell phone to call the breakdown service, you have to know where you are and if you are in a rough area of town by mistake, you do not want to stop to ask the way and you certainly do not want to go farther off the beaten track.

Then there are the detours that we want or have to make because of natural catastrophes, break-downs, traffic jams and roadworks teams. Sometimes you will get advanced warning on the local radio of trouble spots up ahead, but if you do not know the area, there is not much you can do about it. Unless you have an auto navigation system.

I know many people who do not use their auto navigation system every time they get into their car and that is how it ought to be for those people, but it is like insurance, it is nice to have it when you need it.

No-one has to have an auto navigation system to go to the local supermarket, but it is really nice to take the scenic route the next time you go out of town to visit a relation. Perhaps you always take the same route when you visit your Aunty Lil, but with an auto navigation system you can vary your trip to pass local attractions.

Preventing Mosquito Bites And Diseases

So, you’ve got some time off work, college or school and you want to get in the open air and get pleasure from it. Maybe even go on holiday. Great idea! But what happens when you get where you are going? The mosquitoes come out to get you.

If it were not so commonplace, it would sound like Freddy Kruger and Nightmare on Elm Street. The female mosquitoes need blood to create eggs and they seek it out as voraciously as any vampire in a horror movie, while the males go sucking nectar from flowers like fairies.

Well, that is the nightmare setting, but it is not that far from the truth either. For many peoples in the world it is also a genuine life and death problem. Millions of people die every year from malaria and tons more from dengue too. Yet both of these diseases are curable as are most of the other mosquito-borne diseases like Yellow Fever, Japanese Jungle Encephalopathy and Nile fever.

The first thing to realize is that typically these diseases can be inoculated against, particularly if you are going on holiday. The next thing to bear in mind – it might help – is that not all mosquitoes are the same. For instance, in Thailand, the dengue-bearing mosquito (often called the ‘Egyptian’) comes out during the day time and so bites then too. Between about an hour before dawn and an hour after dusk, whereas the malaria-carrying mosquito, the Anopheles, is a night time huntress.

I am not suggesting that you can slacken your vigilance during the day, although many people take for granted that they can. Nobody wants dengue fever either.

So, what can you do? Before you go anywhere, read up on the district or check with medical experts. That bit is not difficult, especially, if you know how to explore the Internet. Then prepare yourself with inoculations if the risk is serious enough in your estimation or a medical expert’s estimation. In my judgment, that is the minimum that a conscientious person should be expected to do to protect him or herself, the family and the community at large.

Then there are a few other things you can do. For instance, wear voluminous clothes, but long sleeves and long trousers. If you are thin on top by choice or not, wear a hat or cap. Dress in socks or stockings in the evening to safeguard your toes. Get a good-quality mosquito repellent and put it on your bare skin, as often as necessary by the manufacturer, which is typically every four or five hours.

You could reasonably stop there, but I like to go a bit further, if the situation calls for it. If I am outdoors in the garden at home or in a hotel, I like to have one of those tennis racquet style electric bug zappers with me. They are fantastic for zapping the odd mosquito that buzzes you. They are good for clearing the bedroom before retiring too and lastly, if I’m renting, hiking, camping or caravaning, I might find space for a rechargeable lantern-style bug zapper too.

If the little so-and-sos are going to give me a fever, they are going to have to try very hard to do it.
